We all hear about saving environment and global warming but hardly anyone of us does anything in this regard. We all think that we would need to leave our comforts behind to do something for the environment. But we all can do small-2 things to lessen the destruction and even help ourselves by saving costs and money.
Here are some things we can do:
At home:
A.C. – I don’t suggest switching them off during the scorching heat, but keeping them to normal temperature. Many of us shiver while A.C. is on but do not switch it off. Many A.C. these days come with automatic temperature control that can be used at night. It automatically increases the temperature at night to normal thus avoiding the chilling effect and use of blankets with A.C.
Use CFL – A 15 watt CFL uses 1/3rd the energy from normal tube light and incandescent bulb. It saves your electricity bill and lessens the impact on environment.
Switch off unnecessary lights: Switch off the lights that are unnecessary lit.
Use Solar energy – Though the initial costs are high, but they tend to be cheaper in the long run. Use solar water heater.
Use star rating electrical appliances: Star rating appliances consume less energy. More the stars, more is the savings.
Some things that are require some research:
Optical fibre lights: Use of optical fibres during the day time to direct the light from outside to the dark corners of the room. We all know that optical fibres are good conductor of light. We all have used those showpieces with white fibres, these are optical fibres. If we can use them optimally for directing outside light in adequate amount, they can become free of cost lightning source.
Energy efficient Gas Stoves: Find a way to transfer solar heat to Gas stoves just like we do in our power plants. This will reduce energy consumption by the stoves.

Home designs:
We can save a lot if we do some research in building designs and improve the architecture of our buildings and keep in mind certain things:
• Use of materials that reflect away light: such as some sorts of glass windows or discover paints to reflect away heat.
• Ensure proper airflow
• Natural light: Keep the provision for natural light so that one does not need to lit lights during the daytime. Use adequate windows or the dome.
• The rooftop: While fitting the tiles on the roof, try to use some insulator between the roof ground and tiles. These will reduce the impact of the heat. Mud with dried straws can also be used.
• Discover some insulators for wall also.
• Roof Garden: If possible a garden can be built on the roof; it also prevents the roof from heating up.

Outside:
• Switch off car on red lights.
• Try to use public transport and car pooling.
• Plant trees.
Some things on large scale:
Already people in other parts of the globe are working on this, but if we (Indians) can also do some research on these, it will help us a lot.
Find newer ways of producing electricity like
Piezoelectric Floors: Piezoelectric materials produce electric current once they are pressed. We can produce electricity by using these circuits on the floor and our movement will press these floors and produce electricity.
Windmill in the sky: A group pf researchers have made a helium filled balloon in the shape of rotor fitted with generators. It is used at a certain altitude as air flow is much more at an altitude.
• Search more areas where kinetic energy can be used to create electricity: Like machines in the Gym (I don’t know much about it, but it can be used to generate little amount of electricity of course.)
